If you loved the unexpected global phenomenon that was The Queen’s Gambit, then you most likely have it bad for Anya Taylor-Joy by now. Honestly, we can totally relate, and while Netflixs limited series was a triumph, we simply need more of Anya beyond the show’s seven episodes. Thankfully, The Queen’s Gambit creator, Scott Frank, heard our prayers because he’s reportedly working on a new TV series and—you guessed it!—he’s already convinced Anya to once again play his lead star!

Curious about the new project? Here’s everything we know about "Laughter in the Dark" so far:

The Plot

If you’ve heard of the raunchy and controversial novel Lolita, then this upcoming adaptation might be familiar to you. Based on Vladimir Nabokov’s Laughter in the Dark, a novel he released prior to Lolita, the TV series will center on Albert Albinus, a middle-aged art critic. Though married, he finds himself lusting over Margot Peters, a 17-year-old aspiring actress. As the two meet, they form a parasitic relationship encouraged by Margot’s ex-lover Axel Rex who helps the young girl ruin Albinus’ life.

In an interview with Scott Frank during The Ringer’s The Watch podcast, he described the project as “a valentine to movies.” He further explained, “I’m going to do it as a film noir and a movie within a movie. And it’s a really nasty, wonderful thriller.”

The Cast

During the same podcast interview, Scott revealed that Anya has already signed on to top bill the show. Based on the plot, it looks likes she’s set to play the young, seductive actress Margot. Other casting for the rest of the characters have yet to be announced.
