A Closer Look at Austin Butler as Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann's Biopic

After almost a decade, Baz Lurhmann will release his first film since the award-winning period piece The Great Gatsby. This time around, the critically-acclaimed filmmaker will return with the highly-anticipated biopic Elvis, which follows the tumultuous life and career of the King of Rock and Roll. Luhrmann’s iconic body of work has propelled many young actors and actresses to stardom. From Leonardo di Caprio and Claire Danes in Romeo + Juliet to Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor in Moulin Rouge!, Hollywood’s best and brightest got their big break in a Luhrmann production. The newest actor to receive the Baz Lurhmann treatment is Austin Butler, the 30-year-old actor assigned the momentous role of Elvis Presley. A former Disney star, Butler has received a number of supporting roles in notable films like Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Jim Jarmusch’s The Dead Don’t Die.
Elvis will be the actor’s biggest break to date and the defining moment in his career. Elvis will premiere worldwide on June 24.
