Proof that Best Animated Feature is the only category the Oscars gets right

A lot of bad movies have won Best Picture at the Oscars. (LOL Crash.) And the Academy voters regularly screw up most of the other categories. But one they've gotten right every single year since it began in 2001 is Best Animated Feature. Some might have questioned its debut award going to Shrek instead of Monsters, Inc., but honestly, that was a tough call. And if there was any question about the Academy having good taste when it came to animated features, that was cleared up in 2002 when it gave the award to Spirited Away, the brilliant film by Hayao Miyazaki.

Pixar has gotten the most love from the Academy—and rightfully so—with eight wins and 10 nominations. But even though the Academy has proven to favor Pixar, it's made the right choice when it comes down to it and denied the studio Oscars for its worst movies: Cars didn't win, and misses like The Good Dinosaur, Monsters University, and Cars 2 didn't even receive nominations. Sure, these are pretty much always big studio, blockbuster features, but these winners are still a hell of a lot better than Shakespeare in Love or goddamn Argo.
