With totally subjective matters like film, it's always good to call in the experts who can make up your mind for you.

Joking aside, film magazine Empire has clout when it comes to rating new film releases and their pick for the best films released in 2017 shows what a stellar year for the silver screen it's been.

Here is their selection of the 10 best films of the year in ascending order:

10| Call Me By Your Name
9| The Handmaiden
8| Logan
7| God's Own Country
6| Dunkirk
5| The Death of Stalin
4| Moonlight
3| La La Land
2| Blade Runner 2049
1| Get Out

Nolan's epic (not a) war film Dunkirk made the list, as did both the decoy Best Picture Oscar winner La La Land and the eventual victor Moonlight.

Scooping the top spot was Jordan Peele's racially charged horror film Get Out which has earned an impressive 99% on Rotten Tomatoes and been credited in part with making 2017 the best year on record for horror films.

Empire does note that James Franco's The Disaster Artist was released after the list was compiled. One we think would have made top 10.
