Christopher Nolan's career has been nothing short of phenomenal. From indie thrillers (Following and Memento, the latter of which started out as an Esquire story) to his reinvention of the superhero genre (his Batman trilogy) to cerebral blockbusters (Inception) and historical epics (Dunkirk)—Nolan has consistently produced films adored by both critics and fans. In fact, only two of his films have below 80 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. Now, after the Oscar nominated Dunkirk in 2017, Nolan's next project is just barely coming into focus. And it already sounds incredible.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project is called Tenet, and is described as "an action epic evolving from the world of international espionage."

The movie is being filmed in seven countries, and boasts a pretty excellent cast. Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Kenneth Branagh, and Michael Caine join a cast that also includes John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Dimple Kapadia, and Clémence Poésy. For those keeping score, that's three former Harry Potter actors (Pattinson, who played Cedric Diggory; Branagh, who played Gilderoy Lockhart; and Poésy, who played Fleur Delacour).

Though the plot description is brief, it reads like any fan's dream Nolan film. This brings to mind the Heat-esque, heist intro of The Dark Knight and the spy-adjacent undercover world of dream infiltration of Inception.

Not only does this have a very promising cast, but it also has a number of Nolan's favorite collaborators on board. The film also includes work by Hoyte van Hoytema, the cinematographer behind groundbreaking Nolan films Interstellar and Dunkirk.

It's never too early to get excited. Tenet is due out on July 17 2020.
