The Hellraiser John Constantine Is Getting Resurrected on HBO Max

Some remember John Constantine as the hellblazer in the comics created by Alan Moore. Others remember him as the tortured antihero portrayed by Keanu Reeves in the 2005 cult film. The demon hunter also had a short-lived stint on an NBC show that never fully lived up to the legacy.
But now, HBO Max is swooping in to give the occult hero a new life in an untitled upcoming series. No word yet on the reboot’s release.
According to reports, this reincarnation of Constantine will lean more on horror elements instead of religious ones, although we expect the occult will still play a large role. The HBO Max show will also reportedly bump down the age of Constantine to attract younger audiences to the iconic DC character, and the title role will be going to a diverse lead. Looks like there's no hope of seeing Keanu chainsmoking again.
Veteran Star Trek and Star Wars producer J.J. Abrams is executive producing the Constantine show, at the same time he’s producing a Justice League Dark show with HBO Max. Newbie writer Guy Bolton has signed on the write the series.
News of the Constantine reboot comes as the highly anticipated Zack Snyder director’s cut of Justice League is set to premiere on HBO Max this March. Constantine will reportedly tie in with the supernatural Justice League Dark show, which will feature Constantine, Madame Xanadu, Deadman, Shade: The Changing Man, and Zatanna.
The DC Extended Universe is expanding, and with Constantine as the latest show in the mix, it’s clear the DCEU is taking a much darker turn than its MCU counterpart over at Disney.
It might be a while before the occult show is released, so until then, binge all the reincarnations of Constantine while you can.
