Lost’s Daniel Dae Kim Has a Few Things To Say About the Game of Thrones Finale

Daniel Dae Kim is no stranger to controversial TV show endings. The actor was a cast member of Lost, the critically acclaimed series about a group of plane crash survivors in an island in the South Pacific. Running for six seasons from 2004 to 2010, Lost is often considered one of the best TV series of all time. 

Lost’s finale, however, is another story. After it aired on May 23, 2010, audiences were almost evenly split between those who loved it and those who despised it. You know, kind of like what happened recently with the finale of a certain fantasy series about warring noble families, Night Kings and dragons.

Kim, who has since gone on to star in another TV hit—the reboot of the classic police drama series Hawaii Five-O—as well as various other shows and films, is still recognized for his role on Lost nine years after the show ended, so it’s inevitable that he gets asked about the polarizing finale of Game of Thrones.

“Because of my experience with controversial endings, I can tell you that I can appreciate all the work that everyone put in—writers, directors, actors and crew on a show like Game of Thrones,” he told Esquire Philippines during a brief chat in Los Angeles, California. “I am of the firm belief that you cannot please everyone, no matter what you do.

“So, did I feel like [the Game of Thorones ending] was everything I wanted? Not necessarily. But it was eight years they gave us of really quality entertainment, and so to judge the entire series based on the last episode, I don’t think is the right way to look at it.”

He has a point, of course. Now maybe those still salty about the GOT finale will take a page out of Kim’s play book and just let it go.
