Former Bond Director Danny Boyle Thinks Robert Pattinson Should Be the Next 007

Make it happen, if only for the hilarious backlash.

Robert Pattinson pissed off a whole bunch of fanboys last month when he was named the next Batman, and now Danny Boyle, who was originally slated to write and direct Bond 25, would like him to enrage an entirely new fanbase. In an interview with The Guardian, Boyle dream cast Pattinson as the next James Bond.

After seeing Pattinson’s performance in 2018’s High Life, Boyle said he had a realization. "I was sitting there thinking: ‘Oh my God, they should get him to be the next Bond,'" he told The Guardian. When asked if the 33-year-old might be a little too fresh-faced to play 007, Boyle didn’t agree. "No, no," he said. "He must be in his 30s. How old was [Sean] Connery? He’s ready now."

The director was right—Connery was 32 when he made his Bond debut in 1962. But it seems unlikely that Pattinson will land the role anytime soon, as being Batman is probably a fairly big time suck. Still, the manbaby tears would be beautiful to behold.

The so-far-unnamed Bond 25, which is currently filming in Jamaica and will be Daniel Craig’s last outing as the MI6 agent, was set to be directed and written by Boyle with his Trainspotting collaborator John Hodge. But both men left the project last year due to "creative differences" with series producers. "I was with John and they didn’t really like what we were doing and so it’s far better to part company," Boyle told The Guardian. "What we were doing was good. But it was obviously not what they wanted."

Should Robert Pattinson be Bond?

Yes!

Absolutely not.

Boyle was replaced by True Detective director Cary Fukunaga, and the screenplay will be written by Scott Z. Burns and Fleabag's Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Joining returning stars Craig, Ralph Fiennes, and Naomie Harris, Bohemian Rhapsody's Rami Malek is also slated to appear in the film as its villain.
