Fil-Am Hollywood Actor Dante Basco, aka Prince Zuko, Set to Direct The Fabulous Filipino Brothers
The Filipino-American actor and filmmaker Dante Basco will be making his directorial debut in The Fabulous Filipino Brothers, which is an upcoming dark romantic-comedy that will follow four vignettes of the brothers’ adventures, according to entertainment website Deadline.
The movie is a collaborative family project as Basco’s brothers, Darion and Dionysio, co-wrote the script, their sister Arianna will narrate the story, and all four brothers (including Derek) will star in the film. The last time the Filipino-American acting family starred in a film together was in 2000 in the Asian-American family drama The Debut. The Fabulous Filipino Brothers will be produced by Cignal Entertainment and The Machine.
Based in Pittsburg, California, the plot will follow four brothers as one heads to a cockfight, one rekindles an old flame in Manila, another takes on Filipino cuisine, and the last brother finds unexpected love while healing deep wounds. All of their stories and hijinks will reconnect at a shotgun wedding in their family home’s backyard.
“I’ve been working hard with my team and family to get this one off the ground and about to embark on this new adventure,” shared Dante Basco on his Twitter account. “Kind of anxious, kind of excited, can’t wait to get to set and start shooting with my brothers and sister!”
Dante Basco is best known for his memorable performance as Rufio in Steven Spielberg’s Hook opposite the late Robin Williams. Rufio has since become an iconic character for '90s kids. Basco has also gained a large following after voicing Prince Zuko, who arguably had one of the greatest character developments of all time, in the critically acclaimed animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender.
The Basco family has produced numerous Filipino-American actors over the years. Dante is also the uncle of Ella Basco, who will star as Cassandra Cain/Batgirl in the DC film Birds of Prey.
No release date has been given, but this is definitely one worth watching out for.
