Darren Criss won the award for the Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television at the 76th Golden Globe Awards, and he has his mom to thank for it.

In his acceptance speech, Criss dedicated the award to his “firecracker Filipino” mom who hailed from Cebu.

“As we’ve seen, this has been a marvelous year for representation in Hollywood, and I am so enormously proud to be a teeny, tiny part of that as the son of a firecracker Filipino woman from Cebu that dreamed of coming to this country and getting to be invited to cool parties like this,” the 31-year-old actor said. “So mom, I know you’re watching this. You are hugely responsible for most of the good things in my life. I love you dearly. I dedicate this to you.”

Criss starred in the true crime anthology The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, which premiered on FX on January 17, 2018 and ended on March 21, 2018. He played the role of serial murderer Andrew Cunanan, a young gay American who went on a killing spree in 1997 and ended his own life when he was 27 years old. One of his victims was Italian fashion designer and founder of Versace, Giovanni Maria "Gianni" Versace.
