Dave Chappelle Is Bringing His Legendary Standup to Manila
This January 14 and 15, Emmy Award-winning comedian Dave Chappelle brings his legendary standup show to The Theatre at Solaire Resort and Casino in Manila. Fans should—gladly—welcome trademark Chappelle: no boundaries and no restraints.
Seasoned standup comic (and one-time disappearing act) Dave Chappelle has made a legendary name for himself, not just out of being funny, but out of being—excuse the overused word—brilliant. But at a time when every other show churned out by the streams seems to achingly wish to deserve that description, maybe we should finally put that word where it belongs.
But Chappelle defies even that description, waving it away like he’s too busy thinking of the most provocative things to say to entire sold-out audiences as though he were mouthing off his most unspeakable thoughts to his closest circle of friends. Nothing is sacred, nothing is withheld. And, often, nothing he says is something that has not crossed our minds during our most private moments, either.
This is what a standup show all about, after all: a non-stop edge-of-your-seat cascade of non sequiturs, asides, parables, takes on current events —and discomforting notions—all those great and small things that are really deep inside of us but we never knew we knew.
But here’s one thing we should know, this early: tickets go on sale December 17 at the Solaire Box Office—and the first Chappelle show in Manila should be a good way to blow off all that pent-up holiday pressure.
