Dr. Who's Matt Smith in Star Wars IX Should Win Back the Nerds

Disney and Lucasfilm have gotten a lot of shit from Star Wars fans lately. Even though they've delivered two perfectly serviceable entries into the Skywalker saga (both better than the prequel trilogy), these trolls can't help but complain. It seems they can never be pleased, even though Disney has set out to ensure they'll get Star Wars movies for the rest of eternity, and even completed the ultimate nerd trifecta by letting the Game of Thrones dudes helm their own Star War.

But, since Disney knows exactly what nerds want, they've found the perfect way to stop their moaning on the internet: Cast former Dr. Who star Matt Smith in a key role.

The actor, most recently known for his Emmy-nominated performance as Prince Philip on The Crown, is the latest in nerd-friendly casting news that also includes Lord of the Rings and Lost star Dominic Monaghan and Billy Dee Williams reprising his role as Lando Calrissian.
