A Star Wars Fan Turned Colin Trevorrow's Original Episode 9 Script Into an Incredible Short Animated Film

This is the closest we'll get to seeing the very metal Skywalker finale that could have been.

The Rise of Skywalker might not have been the ending we deserved, but it was the Star Wars ending we got, nonetheless. There's nothing we can do about it now! But, that doesn't mean it's not still fun to dig into the ending of the Skywalker saga that we could have gotten.

For the last few months, Star Wars fans have obsessed over the original script and concept art for Colin Trevorrow's Duel of the Fates, the Episode IX he was making before he was replaced by J.J. Abrams. His version of the movie was metal as hell, and a lot of fans are disappointed that this dark take on the Skywalker finale was not the film Disney ended up making.

And sure, right now we have much bigger problems on our hands than an underwhelming Star War, but one fan took the time to actually turn the leaked original script and concept art into a pretty great animated short film. YouTube channel Mr. Sunday Movies has turned Trevorrow's ideas into what's a pretty funny recap of the film that could have been—lovingly animated with cute cartoon figures and funny commentary by a narrator. There's more Rose Tico, Rey's double-sided lightsaber, and no big Palpatine granddaughter twist!

This is not Duel of Fates as it was intended to be seen. But this is the closest we'll probably ever get to seeing the film that Trevorrow intended to make. And at the very least, it's a pretty pleasant distraction from everything else we have going on right now.
