Clara Benin on Songwriting During the Pandemic, Her New Single, and Signing With Sony

In our latest episode with podcast host PJ Cana, Clara shares intimate details about her songwriting process, getting a pandemic puppy, and her enduring dream of playing music “for as long as she can.”
Benin recently released a new single called “Click,” with her new label Offmute, the Southeast Asian imprint of Sony. Benin is one of the few indie artists who DIY-ed her career, going from jamming at Tito bars for free to having her face blasted on billboards in New York City’s Times Square.
On her early days in the music scene, Benin shares that she has no regrets going through the trials every up-and-coming musician faces.
“I was just having fun. Like, I love doing gigs. Kahit sobrang liit ng talent fee or minsan walang talent fee nga. They just give me a free iced tea or something,” jokes Benin on her early career. “I was just doing it for the love of music, and I was surrounded by my friends who were doing music as well.”
