Game of Thrones Finally Killed Some Major Characters in Episode Five. Here's Everyone We Lost.

It's quite the list.

Game of Thrones' much ballyhooed Battle of Winterfell was a bit of a disappointment. Not only was the majorly hyped battle too dark to see, but it didn't feel anywhere near as consequential as fans expected after months of hearing about the grueling 11 weeks of night shoots that were required to make it. The Night King was dispatched surprisingly easily, and the body count consisted mainly of secondary characters like brave little Lyanna Mormont.

But Episode Five had all the feeling of consequence that the Battle of Winterfell lacked and then some. Dany truly (and far too quickly) became the Mad Queen, tipped over the edge by the deaths of her friend Missandei and dragon Rhaegal in Episode Four. She and her forces stormed King's Landing, and didn't stop the bloodbath after the city surrendered. And a lot of folks died along the way.

The first death was painful—Conleth Hill masterfully acted Varys's final moments, staring down Drogon with both admirable bravery and true fear. But then it was off to the races, as King's Landing burned and crumbled, taking a good portion of the cast with it. Here's a list of everyone who died in this episode, from Jaime and Cersei's demise in the bowels of the Red Keep to Golden Company Commander Harry Strickland, a character who lived as he died—pointless and obscure.

Varys

The Master of Whispers was sentenced to death by Daenerys after he backed Jon's claim to the Iron Throne.

Ser Harry Strickland

Grey Worm dispatched this barely-named character early on during the battle for King's Landing.

Euron Greyjoy

Jaime met Euron while on his way to Cersei in the Red Keep. Cersei's two suitors fought it out, with Euron injuring Jaime severely before the Kingslayer stabbed him in squarely in the guts.

Qyburn

The Mountain swatted Qyburn out of the way on the steps of the Red Keep on while on his way to Cleganebowl, and the former maester died after his head hit the stones.

Gregor "The Mountain" Clegane and Sandor "The Hound" Clegane

Yep, we finally got to see the fearsome brothers face off. And they both lost.

Jaime Lannister and Cersei Lannister

Jaime got what he wanted—he died in the arms of the woman he loved as the Red Keep collapsed around them.
