Guy Ritchie's Aladdin Movie Will Be A Musical

All right, you mug?

Guy Ritchie has avoided the wrath of blood-thirsty Disney fans by confirming that his Aladdin remake will be a musical.

It was revealed back in October that Aladdin was the latest Disney classic to be adapted to live action, and while he can't say much yet, Ritchie has pretty much confirmed that the musical elements will remain.

"I think it'd be tough to not make [Aladdin] a musical," he told Nerdist. "I've really just immersed myself into that project. So I'm still looking for cast members, we still haven't found exactly which direction we're going in.

"I'm confident that at some stage it will reveal itself to me, but right now it's just a bit too premature."

Aladdin would mark his first ever musical, but Ritchie does have some music experience, such as directing his ex-wife Madonna's video for 'What It Feels Like for a Girl'.

Another positive sign for Ritchie's remake is that it looks to be avoiding whitewashing by casting Middle-Eastern leads.

A casting call went out in March looking for the new Aladdin and Princess Jasmine, specifically calling them "Middle Eastern characters", which put many fans at ease after they urged Disney to cast an appropriate actress for the lead in the live-action Mulan.

Last month, it was revealed that we might be seeing Will Smith as the Genie in Ritchie's remake, which doesn't yet have a release date.
