Hayop Ka!, the Philippines' First Animated Netflix Film, Is Dropping Next Month
The Philippines first fully animated film on Netflix is coming out on October 29. Save the date, because this is no doubt the most highly awaited animated film from the Philippines this year.
This is definitely not your average animated film. A romcom at its heart, the Netflix movie explores the themes of love and adulting set in a world where animals take center stage.
Angelica Panganiban voices the lead character, Nimfa Dimaano, a cat working at a department store, dating an askal janitor named Roger, voiced by Robin Padilla. The poor cat finds herself in a love triangle when she meets Inigo, a dog (in every sense of the word), who can give Nimfa a taste of the bougie things in life. Inigo is voiced by Sam Milby.
Did we mention the title is Hayop Ka!? Now that’s just gold.
And the slogan? "Serious drama. Sexy romance. Intriguing intrigue." Give the writers a reward.
The best part about the film being released on Netflix? You can pause it at any point to appreciate the sheer wittiness of the film. Instead of Mall of Asia, you've got the cast hanging out at Mall of Aso. There's also Purrada, Bullgari, and Chownel. There's even a shot of EDSA's Guadalupe Bridge with billboards of Sheepguard and Hedgehog & Shoulders.
Directed by Avid Liongoren and produced by Piolo Pascual, Hayop Ka! Comes from Rocketsheep studio, which has produced the likes of Saving Sally and Kita Kita.
There’s a lot to be excited about, from the star-studded voice cast to the stunning graphics. Philippine cinema has barely scratched the surface of animated films, and Hayop Ka! might just be the film that busts open the door to even more amazing animated local films in the future.
Hayop Ka! The Nimfa Dimaano Story starts streaming on October 29, only on Netflix.
