Henry Cavill Might Retire Superman's Cape as Reports Say He's Moving to Marvel
For almost 10 years, the world has known Henry Cavill for his breakout role as Clark Kent/Superman in the first Snyderverse DC Extended Universe film, Man of Steel. Since 2013, Cavill has been the face of Superman, starring in DCEU films Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League, and Zack Snyder’s Justice League. It’s hard to imagine anyone else donning the Kyptonian symbol for hope, but at the end of the day, business is business. Director Zack Snyder was the one to rope Cavill into the DCEU, and with Snyder’s departure, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Cavill followed.
According to reports, Cavill met with Marvel execs in London, eager for a face-to-face conversation about potentially joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Cavill isn’t the only actor from another major franchise and cinematic universe to be tied to MCU’s talent roster. Disney and Marvel’s massive success with its MCU films and shows have attracted everyone from megastar Angelina Jolie (The Eternals) to the alumni of Game of Thrones, Emilia Clarke (Secret Invasion), Richard Madden (The Eternals), and Kit Harrington (The Eternals).
So far, reports say the meeting was only to talk, so there’s no confirmation yet that Cavill will join the MCU. But it wouldn’t be a surprise if he did. While Marvel is known for casting unknown actors, like Chadwick Boseman and the then-unknown Chris Evans, and catapulting them to stardom, it’s also known for casting well-known actors, like Robert Downey Jr. and Scarlett Johanssen and further establishing their careers. We’re sure the paycheck won’t hurt either.
The MCU’s Phase Four is introducing an entire new batch of superheroes to its audiences, and we can’t wait to know which one might be given to Cavill. Fans have their fingers crossed that he gets cast as Captain Britain.
Aside from Superman, Cavill is already attached to the growing Witcher universe as the Netflix show’s main character, Geralt of Rivia.
