In the New Stranger Things Trailer, Hawkins Goes Full Spring Break

The new trailer for Season Four trades its apocalyptic feel for sunshine and spitballs.

Over the past year or so, we've seen a slow, almost funereal procession of Stranger Things previews. The show that was once a beacon of pool-partied hope has, so far, showed us grim looks of Hopper wasting away in Russia, flashbacks to Eleven's traumatic upbringing, and a spooky clock. Wasn't this the show about the cute kids in the Ghostbusters costumes?

Thankfully, Netflix dropped a new trailer on Saturday at its Stranger Things Day event—and its decidedly cheerier. With Eleven moving to a new town, the minute-and-a-half-long preview focuses on her pen-pal relationship with Mike, who stayed back in Hawkins. Through a voiceover reading of her letters, we hear Eleven talking about life at her new school, where she seems to be the target of some very '80s methods of bullying. (Read: Spitballs, pointing and laughing, etc.) She's excited for spring break, too, which means that whatever apocalyptic threat coming Season Four's way will conveniently happen when the crew is off school.

Aside from that? There's not too much to unpack here. In the last 30 seconds of the trailer, we glimpse snippets of the new season's dramatics. There's Joyce Byers holding a creepy-looking doll, a Chronicles of Narnia door in the middle of the wilderness, and a car chase to top it all off. There's also what looks to be a gunfight in the Byers household, as well as a return to the shady Hawkins National Laboratory. Don't think about that, for now. Just enjoy the spring break of it all, friends.

Also, just an aside—the Stranger Things kids are old now. In my book, counting my the wasting moments of life in Stranger Things years is more terrifying than any Mind-Flayer.
