Now Is the Time to Start Watching Netflix's Insatiable
Insatiable's reputation precedes itself. The first season's trailer was slammed by critics for elements that, at face value, were offensive. But, really, the Netflix show tackles, not glamorizes, relevant issues.
The show has found an audience in the Philippines, which is why its titular characters Debby Ryan and Dallas Roberts came to Manila to promote the second season. The two were joined by beauty queen and actress Gloria Diaz, who makes a special guest appearance in the new season.
“I think there are so many fun characters... chaos happens when you put us all together. It’s just really good people making bad decisions,” Ryan says.
Though Insatiable plays out like a chaotic yet hilarious soap (it tells the story of pageant coach Bob, played by Roberts, and his protege Patty, played by Ryan), it shines the spotlight on mental health, self-image, and more.
"[Mental health] is very important. The show attacks a wide range of things, often satirically, but mental health is one of the crucial things that many of the characters are dealing with. It's very important to discuss it," Roberts says.
The second season deals more with redemption. For Patty, this means realizing how the things she does affects her current state.
“In season two, you begin to see Patty become more self-aware, more self-assured. She definitely starts to look more internally and learns more about herself and her relationships, what she wants, and how she intends to get it,” Ryan says.
