There was little detail when news came out last year that Agot Isidro and JC Santos would be starring in Malaysian director Bradley Liew's Motel Acacia, but now we're finally being treated to the very first trailer of the international film. And it looks very promising.

Co-written by Liew and award-winning producer Bianca Balbuena, the cast includes Will Jaymes, Talia Zucker, Jan Bijvoet, Nicholas Saputra, Bront Palarae, and Vithaya Pansringarm.

Motel Acacia centers on JC, a young Filipino man who's set to take over his father's motel business. Located in the wilderness, the remote motel provides shelter to illegal immigrants. But, the guests soon discover that the motel is home to a dark and ancient spirit. That, along with several challenges involving food and other circumstances, leads to a fight for survival.

The film is a timely and interesting take on some of the most important issues today. "Besides the mythological part of the film or the horror elements of the film, it’s really about the themes we wanted to talk about: the present state of the world that we’re living in, how we become desensitized to killing, how we’ve got this big immigration issue across the world," Liew said during a media conference last year.

Motel Acacia will have its world premiere in the Asian Future section of the Tokyo International Film Festival on November 1, 2019.
