Jimmy Kimmel, Gal Gadot, Armie Hammer, Lin Manuel Miranda, and Other Stars Crashed a Movie Screening
This year’s Oscars was all about diversity, representation, and the #MeToo movement, with hosts making frequent jabs at the ratio of male to female nominees. But the show had its lighter moments too—such as when Jimmy Kimmel got fellow stars to crash a next-door screening to thank the movie-going public.
Kimmel pulled Gal Gadot, Ansel Elgort, Margot Robbie, Mark Hamill, Emily Blunt, Lupita Nyong'o, Armie Hammer, Lin Manuel Miranda, and Guillermo del Toro out of the Oscars audience and had them sneak over to the TCL Chinese Theatre, where a preview of A Wrinkle in Time was being held.
The people watching at home got a big kick out of seeing Wonder Woman and Harley Quinn leaving the theatre together.
Imagine watching Oprah one moment, and having Jimmy Kimmel and Gal Gadot right in front of you the next, joking about how the theater smells like marijuana. “We were talking about our appreciation for people who go to the movies, and those are you people, so thank you,” Kimmel said.
The rest of the group trooped in with candy bars, a six-foot sub, and hotdog cannons. “Do not aim the hotdogs at the vegetarians!” Kimmel quipped.
The screen flashed a live feed of the Oscars audience, who shouted, “Thank you!” at the moviegoers.
Kimmel then pulled a lucky guy named Mike out of the audience, and asked him to introduce comediennes Tiffany Haddish and Maya Rudolph as the next presenters. He laughed as Mike stuttered while saying Haddish’s name, but who can blame the guy? He was probably still recovering from the shock of being surrounded by all those famous people.
