Batman & Robin Director Publicly Apologizes For Making The Movie

Batman & Robin director Joel Schumacher has apologized for making one of the most criticized superhero movies ever.

Talking to Vice, he reflected on filming the picture to mark its 20th anniversary and couldn't be more sorry for it.

"Look, I apologize. I want to apologize to every fan that was disappointed because I think I owe them that," he said.

Schumacher noted that after Batman Forever, he just knew not to make a sequel, but since Warner Bros wanted him to and he was coming off a run of successful movies, he went for it anyway.

"I never planned on being, that dreadful quote, 'a blockbuster king' because my other films were much smaller and had just found success with the audience and not often with the critics, which is really why we wrote them," he explained.

"And then after Batman & Robin, I was scum. It was like I had murdered a baby."

But fair play to Schumacher, he's not blaming anyone else for the failure of Batman & Robin. "A lot of it was my choice. No one is responsible for my mistakes but me," Schumacher admitted.

"I had a long history of fighting for unknowns, for fighting for a little extra budget when we needed it, so nobody never, ever forced me to make a decision I didn't approve of."

If only someone was there to tell him it's never a good idea to have nipples on a Batsuit.
