No matter how you look at it, there's a bit of irony in this latest high-profile drug bust. Julio Diaz, a veteran actor best known for his role in Raymond Red's 1993 historical drama Sakay, was arrested this morning in an anti-illegal drugs operation in Meycauayan, Bulacan.

Diaz starred in the 2017 film Bubog, one of the many films in recent memory to tackle the war on drugs. (Fun fact: it was also the film that Baron Geisler was shooting for when he allegedly urinated on Ping Medina. Both actors were removed from the final cut.) In Bubog, Diaz plays a character named "Ronaldo Delgado," a recently elected President of the Philippines with a tough stance against drugs—which doesn't sound familiar at all. In 2016, after finding his name on the barangay drug watch list, Diaz submitted himself to the police, denying that he had been taking illegal drugs and crying harassment. The actor did admit to using drugs earlier in his career, but claimed that he had since stopped, and that there was no reason for him to be on the watch list. At the time, he even told pep.ph that he supported President Rodrigo Duterte's campaign against drugs. Welp.
