Cinema Centenario and Cinema ’76 are bringing The Kingmaker Back to Local Cinemas This March
Missed The Kingmaker’s run at CCP and Cine Adarna last February? Don’t worry, because the notorious Imeldific documentary is coming back for another screening, this time at Cinema Centenario and Cinema ’76 this March.
Cinema Centenario announced its March 2020 film lineup on social media, however, no date or time has been revealed yet for The Kingmaker’s screening.
Meanwhile, Cinema ’76 will screen The Kingmaker on March 18.
The politically charged documentary by Lauren Greenfield centers on the Marcos family return to power, this time told through the lens of the Imelda Marcos herself. The film had its international debut at the Venice Film Festival in 2019 and was released in the Philippines for the first time at the end of January 2020 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines, which screened the documentary throughout the month of February.
The Kingmaker has been praised for its complicated storytelling, which is directed through the unreliable narration of Marcos. As the documentary’s slogan goes, quoting Marcos, “Perception is real, and the truth is not.”
Given the high demand for a wider release of the controversial documentary, we doubt this will be the last screening of the critically acclaimed The Kingmaker.
