Watch the Trailer for 'The Lion King' Live-Action Remake

Live-action remakes of beloved animated films are tricky.

When they're bad, they're an almost two-hour slog on a Friday night and when they're really bad, they shatter a magical memory from childhood.

But this one, the 2019 update of The Lion King, is looking good and, dare we say, maybe even better than the immortal 1994 classic (that maybe made us cry).

Lots of things to like in the short clip released today: the lush CGI that makes you want to cuddle future king Simba, the soaring chant we're all familiar with (“Nants ingonyama bagithi Baba”), that scene when Rafiki puts red stuff on Simba's forehead, and the comforting fact that James Earl Jones reprises his role as king Mufasa.

But don't let us tell you about it. Watch the trailer below:

With performances by Donald Glover, Beyonce, Alfre Woodard, Seth Rogan, and more, The Lion King returns on July 2019.
