The highly anticipated Netflix adaptation of Trese is finally taking shape. Netflix Philippines has just announced that Liza Soberano and Shay Mitchell will voice Alexandra Trese of the critically acclaimed graphic novel Trese.

The Alone/Together star Liza Soberano will voice Trese in the Filipino language version of the anime series, while the Filipino-Canadian actress of Pretty Little Liars and You fame will voice Trese in the English language version.

Set to premiere on Netflix later this year, Trese will be one of the first Filipino animated series to launch on the platform. The first, Barangay 143, started streaming on Netflix in late 2020, followed by the first animated Filipino film for adult audiences, Hayop Ka!

The Netflix show Trese is based on the popular comic of the same name, which was created by Budjette Tan and Kajo Baldisimo. The dark fantasy comics follows private detective Alexandra Trese as she investigates the crimes of Manila’s supernatural underbelly. Aside from the voices of Soberano and Mitchell, fans will also get to witness Philippine folklore’s scariest mythical creatures come to life in this new Netflix series.

"Shay’s Alexandra exceeded my expectations and she delivers a performance of strength, determination, and family duty that is at the very core of the character. If that wasn't enough, imagine my delight when we confirmed Liza Soberano joining the Filipino voice cast!" said executive producer Jay Oliva.

Both actresses have expressed their excitement to be part of the upcoming series.

“It’s an honor to be the voice of an iconic character such as Alexandra Trese,” said Soberano on Twitter. “I’m a huge fan of Budjette and Kajo’s award-winning Trese comics.”

“Philippine folklore is rich and fascinating, and I am thrilled to be a part of the team bringing this story to life,” shared Mitchell.
