Margot Robbie Got Her 'Once Upon A Time... In Hollywood' Part With Tarantino Fan Letter
Writing to prospective employers asking for a chance to do literally anything for them is something most of us left behind as soon as we'd completed our obligatory fortnight of Year 10 work experience at the local cinema or Halfords. However, it's exactly that which got Margot Robbie her role as Sharon Tate in Quentin Tarantino's upcoming Once Upon A Time... In Hollywood.
Robbie is, like most of us, a longtime Tarantino admirer, and made a pact with herself that she'd give him a shout about getting a part in whatever his next project was - but only once she felt she'd cracked it as a dramatic actor. That moment came once she'd seen the first cut of I, Tonya, the role which earned her an Oscar nomination.
"I wrote [to] him and said, ‘I adore your films, and I would love to work with you in some capacity. Or any capacity,'" Robbie told Vogue. That did the trick, as Tarantino invited Robbie to pop over and have a quick look at the script for Once Upon A Time... and settled her in with some tinnies of Victoria Bitter to drink while she read it. Or at least that's how we hope it went down.
The interview sadly doesn't detail how far Tarantino went in trying to make Robbie feel at home with Australian delicacies, but in the absence of any other evidence we're going to assume he offered her several jars of Vegemite and a DVD of Shane Warne's 101 Greatest Sledges.
