Marvel in 2022: All the Movies and Shows Arriving in the MCU and Spider-Verse

We'll have no shortage of superhero content in 2022.

God bless Kevin Fiege for making 2021 bearable. The Marvel mastermind dropped five amazing MCU shows on Disney+: WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, What If…? and Hawkeye. Not to mention four blockbusters: Black Widow, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Eternals, and Spider-Man: No Way Home. Pandemic? Fiege doesn’t know her.

With a new year upon us, we also have plenty of new MCU shows and movies to look forward to. And tied to the MCU is the Spider-Verse, which Sony is putting in full swing.

Here are all the Multiverse and Spider-Verse shows and movies coming in 2022:

Morbius - January 28

Looks like Sony and Columbia’s Spider-Verse will beat Marvel Studios to be the first to release a Marvel Comics movie in 2022. The first superhero film to premiere after New Year’s will be Morbius, a dark superhero film that follows Dr. Michael Morbius (Jared Leto), a scientist who accidentally cures his rare blood disease with vampirism.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness - May 6

The Blip was only beginning. Doctor Strange 2 will reveal all the consequences of the events of Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Loki. Benedict Cumberbatch will return as Dr. Strange, Elizabeth Olsen as the Scarlet Witch, Benedict Wong as Wong, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Karl Mondo, and Rachel McAdams as Dr. Christine Palmer. We’re in the multiverse now, folks.

Thor: Love and Thunder - July 8

Thor (Christ Hemsworth) is the first superhero to get a fourth MCU film, but this time, the son of Odin will be passing the hammer to his successor—his ex-girlfriend and scientist extraordinaire Jane Foster, aka the Mighty Thor. Also returning are Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Jamie Alexander as Sir, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Karen Gillian as Nebula, Vin Diesel as Groot, Sean Gunn as Kraglin Obfonteri, and Jeff Goldblum as Grandmaster. The Big Bad of the film will be Gorr the God Butcher, played by Christian Bale.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) - October 7

Into the Spider-Verse is arguably one of the best Spider-Man films of all time, so it’s only right that it’s getting a two-part sequel. Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) will follow Miles Morales as he reunites the Spider-Crew on a mission across the multiverse. Morales will be voiced by Shameik Moore, while Gwen Stacy (Spider-Woman) will be voiced by Hailee Steinfeld. Steinfeld also plays Hawkeye's trainee in the Disney+ show Hawkeye. And she’s not the only MCU cross-over cast member in the movie: Miguel O-Hara (Spider-Man 2099) will be voiced by Oscar Isaac, who will play the lead role in the upcoming MCU show Moon Knight.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever - November 11

With the tragic death of Chadwick Boseman (long live the King), the future of Black Panther was up in the air for a while. But it looks like the MCU will be pushing through with the sequel as Wakanda Forever is expected to be released in late-2022. There’s still no word if the role of Black Panther will be recast, but the original cast members will all be returning to the sequel: Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, Danai Gurira as Okoye, Martin Freeman as Everett Ross, Letitia Wright as Shuri, Winston Duke as M’Baku, and Angela Bassett as Ramonda. Wakanda Forever will also introduce a new superhero: Dominique Thorne as Ironheart.

Disney+ Shows to Drop Sometime in 2022

Moon Knight

Oscar Isaac is stepping into the shoes of Marc Spector, aka Moon Knight. The show will follow the former U.S. Marine with dissociative identity disorder who also becomes the human conduit of the Egyptian god Khonshu. Due to his character’s split personalities, Oscar Isaac will be tasked with playing up to four or five characters. Talk about an acting challenge.

Bruce Banner’s (Mark Ruffalo) lawyer cousin Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany) will take the mantle as She-Hulk. Banner has managed to finally get a hold of his Hulk transformation, and he’ll be offering plenty of guidance to his cousin in the same way Clint Barton mentored Kate Bishop. Tim Roth will reprise his role as Abomination, and Jameela Jamil from The Good Place will be joining as Titania, a superstrong rival to She-Hulk.

Secret Invasion

If you watched the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home, then you know that Nick Fury hasn’t been on Planet Earth for a while. Secret Invasion will follow Fury as he deals with a secret sect of Skulls that have infiltrated Earth. Samuel L. Jackson will return as Nick Fury, Ben Mendelsohn as Talos, and Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill. Kingsley Ben-Adir will play the anonymous villain, while Olivia Coleman and Emilia Clarke will be joining in undisclosed roles.

Ms. Marvel

Marvel’s first Muslim superhero will arrive in the form of Kamala Khan (Man Vellani), aka Ms. Marvel, a Pakistani-American teenager with shapeshifting powers. Kamala is a huge fan of Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), who we will likely meet again sometime in the series as Ms. Marvel is expected to set up the story of The Marvels, the 2023 sequel to Captain Marvel.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special

Only the Guardians of the Galaxy could pull off a holiday special. This Christmas-themed special will bring back the gang and will drop sometime in December 2022. The entire cast includes Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Vin Diesel as Root, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Karen Gillan as Nebula, and Pom Klementieff as Mantis. The last we saw of the Guardians, they were departing Earth with Thor in search of Gamora. With Saldana in the cast, it looks like we’ll have a family reunion just in time for the holidays.

Untitled Halloween Special

A mysterious Halloween special is in the works at Disney+, and rumor has it that the special will center on Werewolf by Night, a name associated with two werewolf characters in the comics: Jack Russell and Jake Gomez. We’re betting the former will be the focus of the show as Jack Russell has crossed paths with Morbius, Moon Knight, and Doctor Strange in the comics. Gael Garcia Bernal has been cast in an undisclosed role, and production will start in early 2022.
