Marvel Released a New Short Film From Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

Starring John Mulaney’s scene-stealing porcine web slinger, Spider-Ham.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is perhaps the best ever feature film about the web-slinging hero. And because its story revealed the existence of parallel universes and a whole variety of Spider-People, it was kind of a big Spidey love-in, featuring variants of the hero both well-known (Peter Parker, Miles Morales) and more obscure (Peni Parker).

But Spider-Ham, a version of the web-slinger who happens to be a crime-fighting pig, and who was voiced by Esquire October cover star John Mulaney, was a hilarious, deeply strange scene stealer. And now, Marvel has released online an animated short that stars Peter Porker himself.

The short, which was originally an extra feature on the Into the Spider-Verse Blu-ray, apes Looney Tunes's classic animation style and takes place just before the cosmic intervention of that pesky Super Collider. "In 'Spider-Ham: Caught in a Ham,' what should be a typical day for Spider-Ham quickly turns chaotic when a mysterious portal threatens his cartoon reality and he comes face to face with villain Dr. Craw Daddy," read Marvel’s description. "Is that a great name for him? No! But that's the best name Spider-Ham's got right now, considering all he wanted to do today was eat his hot dog. Can he escape from this trouble, and finish his snack? We'll find out soon enough."

After its release last year, Into the Spider-Verse won Best Animated Feature at both the Oscars and Golden Globes. A sequel is currently in the works, though no release date has yet been announced.
