Henry Cavill, Denzel Washington, and More Are Rumored To Join Phase 5 of the MCU
We already knew that Marvel had big plans for Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but we didn’t know how big. According to a report from entertainment insider Emmet Kennedy, Marvel Studios has signed Henry Cavill, Denzel Washington, John Boyega, Jodie Comer, Daisy Edgar-Jones, John Krasinski, and Giancarlo Esposito for undisclosed roles in the MCU.
Of course, we should always keep MCU rumors with a grain of salt, but we wouldn't be surprised if Marvel could shoulder the talent fees of these seven mega Hollywood stars.
Cavill is famously known for playing Superman in the DC Extended Universe, but with the DCEU moving away from Zack Snyder’s original plan, Cavill’s fate as Superman remains unclear. There have been countless rumors of Cavill joining the MCU over the years, which all came to head when numerous reports revealed that Cavill met with Marvel executives in 2021.
Meanwhile, Boyega is no stranger to the Disney machine after starring in the Star Wars sequel trilogy from 2015 to 2019.
John Krasinski appeared in a cameo in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness earlier this year. Krasinski starred as Reed Richards, aka Mr. Fantastic, from Earth-838. If the rumors prove true, then Krasinski might appear as another variant of Mr. Fantastic.
Denzel Washington famously supported the education of Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman before his passing. Here’s hoping that Washington does appear in Phase 5, perhaps even in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. There'd be no better way to honor the King.
Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios president and mastermind, will either confirm or debunk the rumors at the D23 Expo to be held from September 9 to 11 at the Anaheim Convention Center. The Disney Expo will reveal the biggest announcements from Disney’s top franchises, Marvel included.
