Save Your Speculation. Producers Won't Even Think About The Next James Bond Until 2022
With the end of Daniel Craig’s 15-year run as James Bond around the corner, fans and critics alike have been speculating about the next James Bond for weeks. But according to producers, they can all hold their breath because they won’t even be thinking about the next James Bond until 2022.
“We’re not thinking about it at all,” No Time to Die producer Barbara Broccoli said to BBC Radio 4. “We want Daniel to have his time of celebration. Next year we’ll start thinking about the future.”
“He’s been such a great Bond,” said producer Michael Wilson. “Those are big shoes to fill. I can’t even [think if it’s] possible.”
The search for the next 007 won’t start until 2022, so fans can put their speculations to rest, at least for now. There’s been plenty of buzz about who will be handed the next license to kill, and some fan-favorite contenders include Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, Tom Hiddleston, and Rege-Jean Page. There are even calls for a female James Bond or one from a minority group (Henry Golding’s name was thrown into the arena).
While viewers are eager to speculate the future of James Bond, the producers would rather the limelight stay firmly on the man who’s elevated the James Bond brand to new heights during his 15 years in the iconic role.
Daniel Craig will bow out as Britain’s top-secret agent in October when his last Bond film, No Time to Die, hits theaters in the U.K. and the U.S.
