Paddington 2 Just Dethroned Citizen Kane As the Best-Rated Film on Rotten Tomatoes

Citizen Kane and Paddington 2 wouldn't seem like two movies that would be pitted against each other. That is until the beloved family classic that tells the story of an anthropomorphic bear beat out the Orson Welles masterpiece on Rotten Tomatoes.
Early this week, Paddington 2 dethroned Citizen Kane as the best-rated film on the critic aggregator-a feat considering Citizen Kane has long been considered the greatest film of all time. Naturally, the internet is freaking out.
The Rotten Tomatoes recalculation was due to the unearthing of an 80-year-old negative review of Citizen Kane which ruined the 100 percent score that it held. The reviewer named Mae Tinee said the film failed to impress for a number of reasons, one being that it gave her the creeps.
Even Paddington 2 director Paul King weighed in. He told the Hollywood Reporter, "It’s extremely lovely to be on any list which includes Citizen Kane, but it is obviously quite an eccentric list that goes from Citizen Kane to Paddington 2, so I’ll try not to take it too seriously. I won't let it go too much to my head and immediately build my Xanadu. But I have been cooking up a model just in case."
For what it's worth, Paddington himself seems to be apologetic about the incident. On Twitter, the bear tweeted: "I do hope Mr Kane won't be too upset when he hears I've overtaken him with rotten tomatoes."
