Rami Malek Might Just Be The Next Bond Villain
Fresh from his turn as Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody - for which he clinched a Golden Globe last weekend – Rami Malek is having what is officially termed by industry professionals as a 'bit of a moment'.
With the final season of Mr Robot out later this year the actor will have some time on his hands when the series, in which he's played the lead role, comes to an end.
Perhaps not for long, as the actor has responded to rumours that he is in talks to play a villain in Daniel Craig's last instalment of the Bond franchise.
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight at the Palm Springs International Film Awards, the actor was asked to address the rumours he would star in director Cary Fukunaga's forthcoming film.
"We’ll have to see about that," he said. "It would be nice to play a villain, that would be an actor's dream, another dream role for me. I’ve got to play so many great ones so far and who knows. I’m keeping tight-lipped."
He went on to say that he would "absolutely" say yes if offered the part, which sounds like the matter is settled from his end.
Big shoes to fill, with Oscar-winners like Christoph Waltz and Javier Bardem occupying Bond villain roles and providing some of the more memorable scenes of late. That said, if Malek triumphs at the Academy Awards in February he could prove an irresistible casting.
