Samuel L. Jackson Let Slip How Captain Marvel Will Help the Avengers Stop Thanos
If you've been keeping up with the plague of fan theories in the months since Thanos snapped his fat purple fingers in Avengers: Infinity War, then you're likely aware that time travel will somehow be involved in our heroes plan to save the universe.
But, before we get there, Marvel has a totally different movie planned for us set in the '90s staring Brie Larson's Captain Marvel and Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury. As we know from the comics, Captain Marvel is very powerful. And, fans have theorized that there are a number of ways she can help the Avengers defeat Thanos. At the end of Avengers: Infinity War, we see Fury page Captain Marvel in the seconds before he turns to dust. But where has she been this whole time? And how is she going to help?
In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, Jackson let slip a pretty important detail about Captain Marvel that had not yet been confirmed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe:
She’s pretty much the strongest character—in terms of someone with powers are able to do things—in the Marvel universe. So, for Carol Danvers to be that person and for Brie to become that person, it's gonna be a dynamite thing. I mean, [the Avengers] are up against some really, really tough odds right now—we saw throughout Infinity War—so now we know that we need something that's as powerful as Thanos. And at some point, we'll find out how powerful she is and all the things that she's capable of. She's one of the few people in the Marvel universe that can time travel, so...
Assuming he's right, that's a pretty huge detail. If Captain Marvel can time travel, that makes things much easier for the Avengers. That could mean that Fury—in the end of Infinity War—could be paging Captain Marvel in a different time. Is that why he's using a pager of all tools? If she travels through time to arrive after the dusting, it could potentially mean that she could travel back to the beginning of the Infinity War to help the Avengers in the past organize against Thanos with a better plan (or at least one that doesn't result in half the universe getting killed).
Her ability could also align with other time travel theories. We've already established that Captain Marvel could be powerful enough to survive in the Quantum Realm, which would mean she could somehow link up with Ant-Man (who got trapped there in his own post-credit scene this summer) to help her in her fight.
