With Denis Villeneuve transitioning over to sci-fi (Arrival, Blade Runner 2049), Stefano Sollima has taken over to direct the follow-up to 2015's Sicario. Following the fight against drug cartels at the U.S.-Mexico border, Sicaro 2: Soldado brings back Josh Brolin and Benicio del Toro as a federal agent Matt Graver and his operative Alejandro, respectively.

By the looks of this trailer, Sicario 2 widens the scope of its predecessor into a bigger war. Which is how Brolin recently described it:

"I think it’s just more severe, man. All the way around. I think the characters are more severe. I think the movie is more severe. I think it’s just much bigger. It’s just a bigger scope film. Like I said, when I saw it it was like Sicario felt like a small movie to me, even though it was a very intimate movie."

This trailer shows more massive action scenes and bigger political stakes rather than the tight, tension-focus of its predecessor. And Brolin is once again turning Alejandro loose. "There's no rules this time," Brolin says in the trailer.
