Will Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse Be Delayed? Probably, But We're Not Complaining

Listen up, guys. You’ll probably be vibing to the Spider-Verse 2 soundtrack for a while, because all signs point to the third film being delayed. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has just been released—bagging a sweet $221 million in its first week—and Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse has already been given a release date. If the powers that be at Sony are to be believed, the third film will drop in theaters on March 29, 2024.
But honestly? We’re not convinced. Spider-Verse fans know just how much work goes into these groundbreaking animated films. The first film, which happens in one universe, took four years to make, while the second film, which captures multiple universes, took five years. The Spider-Verse is only expected to grow in the third and final film of the trilogy, making us question just how long it’ll take to create. But one thing is almost sure—they likely won’t make it to 2024.

In response to The Hollywood Reporter’s question on whether she’d started working the third film, Hailee Steinfeld, who voices Gwen, was frank: “Uh, nope!”
Although the voice work for Into the Spider-Verse took a little over a year, Steinfeld and the entire voice cast have been doing voice work for Across the Spider-Verse for almost five years.
"As you can imagine, this has been an ongoing thing since the moment the first one came out. There’s been so much focus, and everyone’s blood, sweat, and tears have been put into making this the most incredible and best version of itself that it can be,” said Steinfeld.
Meanwhile, the directors themselves have expressed doubts that they’ll meet the 2024 deadline. According to Variety, directors Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson reportedly “have no idea whether the film will actually make that release date. Instead, they’re happy to bask in the stunning accomplishment of Across the Spider-Verse.”
All that said, we’re not complaining. If Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is delayed, don’t expect any riots because if there’s one thing the Spider-Verse fans agree on, it’s that we can wait. We’ve seen enough rushed superheroes, thank you very much.
Genius takes time. We say, let ‘em cook. If Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is anything to by, it’ll be worth the wait.
