A Supernatural Prequel Is In the Works, and Fans Aren't Amused

The Winchester family is back in the business of “saving people and hunting things.” Albeit, divided.
According to Deadline, a Supernatural prequel is in the works with Supernatural co-lead Jensen Ackles set to reprise his role as Dean Winchester.
The series, which is still in development at the script stage at The CW, will follow the tragic and traumatic story of Sam and Dean Winchester’s parents, John and Mary. At the start of Supernatural, we learned that Mary died a gruesome death when the boys were young, setting off a chain of events that encompassed 15 seasons of the hit CW show.
The prequel, aptly named The Winchesters, will be executive produced by Jensen and wife Danneel Ackles, who both run a production company called Chaos Machine Productions. Supernatural alum Robbie Thompson is writing the script and also producing alongside the pair.
Supernatural ran for 327 episodes, making it the most successful and longest-running live-action fantasy TV series of all time. No word yet on when the prequel will be released, but since The CW has already committed to the project, at least we know for sure it’s not a rumor or a “maybe.”
But the story isn't about the spin-off—it's the drama unfolding before our eyes.
Since (spoiler) Dean died at the end of Supernatural, he’ll be returning as narrator instead of a time-traveling character. And where Dean (and Ackles) goes, Sam (played by Jared Padalecki) is sure to follow... right? Wrong. Padalecki recently took to Twitter to express his surprise at Ackles' new project that is excluding him. In case you live under a rock, Supernatural was led by both Ackles and Padalecki, the two forming a bromance immortalized in TV history. Looks like that bromance was only for the screen. This is why we can't have nice things.
Of course, fans are speculating whether this is all a prank and someone hacked Padalecki's account. Or maybe that's just wishful thinking.
Fans are also unimpressed with the news of the spin-off.
