We all knew Game of Thrones was coming to an end. Obviously we did. All men must die, and all that. But now we know exactly how long season eight's episodes will be, and the fact that it's just going to go away and never return has suddenly got uncomfortably real.

According to French film magazine Première, which is affiliated with HBO, the final season is set to start with two hour-long episodes before four beefy 80-minute episodes see out the saga. The current consensus between fans is that the last two will be where the barney between the forces of Westeros and the White Walkers will finally happen.

If you're a bit rusty on your French, that's: "Useful precision: @OCSTV orally explained that the first two episodes of the final season #GameOfThrones were going to last 60 minutes, and the following four 80 minutes after the latest info from HBO."

There had been a bit of speculation that the many references to "feature-length" episodes by various cast members and insiders meant we'd have six proper two-hour films to see the show out, but that was stamped on quite quickly. "They are not going to be [two hours long]," HBO boss Casey Bloys told Entertainment Weekly. "Not that I’ve seen, anyway."

Anyway, that means that the overall run time of season eight is exactly the same as season seven: 440 minutes.
