The Next Season of 'Westworld' Will Feature New Parks

Here's everything we know so far.

It's hard to imagine that Westworld's first season ended more than a year ago. Since then, the show has been on an extended hiatus, taking time to put in the work so that Season Two lives up to the hype. But the show has never seemed too far out of mind, with fans consistently providing new theories and ideas for what's to come.

Even the creators thought 2018 seemed like a short amount of time, which is exactly what co-creator Jonathan Nolan told me in December 2016. "The reason the show won't be on until 2018 is because we discovered, [when] shooting the pilot and then shooting the series, that it's not like a regular TV show, and we don't have the source material to draw from—we're creating it on the fly, so we need more time," Nolan said. "In the movie business, we're lucky if we could turn around a Batman sequel in three or four years. So I think the idea that we'll get this done by 2018 is actually remarkably quick."

After much anticipation, Westworld will officially return for its second season on April 22. But, what's this season going to be about?

The truth is that we don't know much so far, but the best guesses we have come from some early trailers. The first teaser showed Thandie Newton's Maeve continuing her uprising and Evan Rachel Woods' Delores in modern clothing.

And while it didn't show much, fans uncovered an important detail hidden within that brief footage. At 33 seconds into the trailer, there are white bars at the top of the screen, which "is binary and decodes to which leads to Delos Destinations dot com, as one Reddit user found. Now, there's a lot to do on the website, but one of the biggest discoveries so far is a slideshow that advertises the six Delos parks that are either active or in development. While they don't give details about these other parks, one of them is called "S World," which is likely the Samurai World that characters discovered at the end of Season One.

Along with what we saw in the finale, we can hope at least one of these other worlds will appear in Season Two. Fans also speculate that Medieval World and Roman World from the original 1973 film might also make an appearance. This website also goes into detail about the founder of the company, James Delos.

This lines up with what Nolan told me after Season One ended:

We've left some questions on the table for the second season in terms of what Delos' actual agenda with the park. We know from Tessa Thompson's character, Charlotte Hale, that the theme park aspect of it is not the central moneymaker for them. Which, for us, mapped onto the slightly cynical moment we have in this age in which most of the services we avail ourselves online are free because the companies that are providing them are monetizing what we're doing in other ways that are less transparent.

So along with Maeve and Dolores's uprising continuing, it's likely that they'll ramp up the corporate intrigue in Season Two.
