The Russo Brothers Might Make More Marvel Films, But Only For These Comic Characters
After Avengers: Endgame, then the very slightly extended Endgame rerelease, then SpiderMan: Far From Home, then the very slightly extended Far From Home rerelease, it's a wonder that more Marvel fans haven't got whatever the cinema-goer's equivalent of gout is. It's been a very, very rich summer.
From the sounds of it, though, they'll have another chance to gorge on a decade-long film saga helmed by the Russo brothers before too long, as Joe Russo has suggested he and Anthony have ideas for new films with big comic book characters to burn.
"I grew on up [John] Byrne's X-Men run. Ben Grimm was a favourite character growing up, the Thing," Joe Russo told SyFy. "And Fantastic Four is now in the Marvel fold. There's a lot. Silver Surfer is an amazing character. Going really big in cosmic would be a lot of fun. So there's a lot of things that could attract us."
"I think after you go on the journey that we went on—because there is a comprehensive narrative, an overarching story from Winter Soldier all the way to the end of Endgame that involves Tony and Cap, through Civil War, through Infinity War—I think that scale of ambition in storytelling is a bug that's bit us," he said. "And we're compelled to tell more stories on that scale, with that sort of years-long ambition to them."
Joe added that he and his brother are "like family" with Kevin Feige and the rest of the Marvel high-ups, so he's "sure we'll find something that we can do together soon".
