The New Trailer of The Witcher, Netflix's Highly Anticipated Series, Promises High Fantasy

While you were disappointing little kids with your lumps of coal and sad candy on Halloween, streaming giant Netflix released the main trailer for The Witcher at midnight.

The highly anticipated eight-episode series, based on the best-selling fantasy books by Andrzej  Sapkowski, has been touted as the next Game of Thrones. With a storyline that involves witchers (monster hunters), elves, gnomes, and monsters, plus a cast headlined by former Superman, Henry Cavill, the Netflix series has a good chance of satiating your hunger for magic and adventure, violence and sex.

The series follows three characters—Cavill’s witcher Geralt, Anya Chalotra’s sorceress Yennefer, and Freya Allan’s princess Ciri—as they “navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.”

A previous trailer showed glimpses of the fictional Continent, a nugget about “how elves taught humans how to turn chaos into magic,” and, most shocking of all, Cavill in a white wig (we’re figuring out if his chiseled mug can pull it off).

The Witcher faces competition with a slew of fantasy series set to be released or already out from various platforms, such as His Dark Materials from HBO, Carnival Row from Amazon Prime, Cursed from Netflix, and, oh yeah, the recently greenlit Thrones prequel House of the Dragon.

Nevertheless, we’re leaning toward this one just because we have a soft spot for anyone who can power through the heinous crime of a digital shave.

Its new trailer teases fantasy of the highest order, throwing in a description of Geralt as a "mutant created by magic," even more battle scenes (in a castle, in the darkness, in a cave, and just everywhere our hero goes), and what looks like zombie Cavill.

Also, that lustrous white wig is growing on us. See it in action below. The Witcher premieres on December 20.
