Tom Holland Says a Spider-Man Deleted Scene Contains A Very Niche Star Wars Reference

One for all the Lobot heads out there

Tom Holland's got a bit of a rep for accidentally dropping spoilers willy-nilly, but we've just had the first instance of him managing to spoil a deleted scene that'll turn up on the Blu-Ray release of Spider-Man: Far From Home, a film which has literally just opened in cinemas.

"There was a scene that was cut from the film where Peter Parker went and sold all his toys to get the money in order to buy MJ a present," Holland told Uproxx. "And one of the toys, it was Kevin Feige, he said, 'I need this toy to be in there.' I forget what it’s called, but it’s a really niche Star Wars character and then I end up not selling that toy."

But which toy was it, Tom Holland? Which one? Was it a rare one? Tom? Tommo?

"I don’t know if it was a rare one, I just know that it was just not one of the mainstream ones."

Right. Fortunately, Uproxx did a bit of digging and Kevin Feige confirmed to them that the Star Wars character concerned was Lobot, the bald fella with what looks like robotic earmuffs.

Lobot is niche reference, but the king of extremely minor background characters in the Star Wars universe is of course IG-88. He pops up very briefly in The Empire Strikes Back and is tasked with finding the Millennium Falcon by Darth Vader. That's basically it.

According to Wookiepedia, though, he split his consciousness between three other identical droids and ended up trying to take over and control the new Death Star from within, which is an admirably insane goal.

He did actually manage to do it too, but almost immediately after he achieved this lifelong aim, the new Death Star was destroyed by the Rebel Alliance. That Pyrrhic victory must, surely, be worth a Rogue One-style spin-off.
