Top Gun fans would be enthused to be reminded that the iconic 1986 movie will be getting a sequel, entitled Top Gun: Maverick, slated for release in 2020. But Filipino Top Gun fans would surely be consumed by rapturous joy to know that one of our own (sort of) is joining the cast.

Deadline has reported that Manny Jacinto, a Manila-born, Filipino-Canadian actor who shot up to fame in NBC's The Good Place, has been cast as Fritz, a pilot. He joins Tom Cruise (who will reprise the role of Maverick Mitchell), Glen Powell, Jennifer Connelly, Val Kilmer, Ed Harris, Jon Hamm, and Miles Teller.

Not much about the plot has been revealed, but it's rumored that the story will revolve around Maverick, now a Top Gun flight instructor, taking Miles Teller's character under his wing. Top Gun: Maverick will be directed by Joseph Kosinski, who also made 2010's Tron: Legacy, also a long-awaited sequel to an '80s movie, but one that was panned by critics.

Jacinto will also star opposite Chris Hemsworth in Drew Goddard's Bad Times at the El Royale, a thriller slated for release later this year.
