The Philippines' Very First Anime Trese Is Coming to Netflix

Netflix just released the first look of Trese, a homegrown anime from the Philippines created by Budgette Tan and Kajo Baldisimo. The images were shown at the launch of the Netflix Anime festival on October 27.

According to Rio Uchida, a Japanese actress who hosted the event and also a professed otaku, she was impressed by Trese and how the anime has grown all over the world to be produced in different countries.

Netflix Philippines has released two images of Alexandra Trese, the main character in the Filipino anime series. In the second photo, you can see Alexandra looking through the glass window with the skyline of Metro Manila in the background.

Trese forays into the rich characters and beings of Philippine folklore, offering international audiences a glimpse into the mythical creatures that come from centuries-old Filipino beliefs. Mythical creatures of Philippine folklore live in hiding in Manila, and Alexandra Trese finds herself going head to head against a criminal underworld composed of malevolent supernatural beings.

Trese is premiering on Netflix in 2021. The exact date of its release is not yet announced.
