Remember Griot?

If you can remember all the way back to February, before Deadpool 2, before everyone died in Avengers: Infinity Wars, there was Black Pantherthe crowning achievement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now that fans have gotten the chance to go back and give the film much-deserved repeated viewings, they've noticed a few things everyone missed the first time around—namely, a sneaky cameo by Trevor Noah.

Fans only recently noticed that Noah's name appears in the credits as a character named Griot.

Who is Griot? That character—it turns out—is the name of the A.I. Shuri invented for the Wakandan ship piloted by Everett Ross in the climactic final battle. Though Noah never mentioned that he voiced Griot, he has been a pretty big fan of the movie, which uses Xhosa, the official language of Johannesburg. “It was extra special for me because the people speak Xhosa in the movie,” he said in February. “There were subtitles, and I was like, I don’t need your subtitles! I don’t need your subtitles! This is just for me right now! Nobody else listen! This reminds me of my mom.”

He's in good company of MCU cameos this year with Tobias from Arrested Development.
