Zack Snyder's Justice League was released last week, almost four years after the theatrical cut hit cinemas, following a long fan campaign calling for the director to return and release his vision of the movie.

While the release of the film has proven that fans can band together to make something thought impossible happen–and could prove that there is a market for longer films/cuts released via streaming as opposed to the cinema–the whole thing has had an air of controversy, too.

Similarly to Disney's Star Wars sequels and Captain Marvel, a lot of the discourse around the #SnyderCut has turned nasty, with personal attacks and threats made online, not just to movie fans but to people working on the project and to the film's critics too.

In an interview with Variety, WarnerMedia's CEO Ann Sarnoff has explicitly condemned those who have engaged in any such behaviour. "We're not tolerating any of that," she said. "That behaviour is reprehensible no matter what franchise you're talking about or what business you're talking about. It's completely unacceptable."

"I'm very disappointed in the fans that have chosen to go to that negative place with regard to DC, with regard to some of our executives. It's just disappointing because we want this to be a safe place to be."

Sarnoff continued: "We want DC to be a fandom that feels safe and inclusive. We want people to be able to speak up for the things they love, but we don’t want it to be a culture of cancelling things that any small faction isn't happy with.

"We are not about that. We are about positivity and celebration."

Elsewhere in the interview, Sarnoff ruled out any Justice League sequels from Snyder, as well as a director's cut of Suicide Squad.
