Watch the Trailer For Paul Soriano's Upcoming Surf Film Siargao

You’ve either been to Siargao at least once in the past few months, or you’ve seen the enviable Instagram photos of folks who have. It’s been the destination-of-the-moment for a while now, for its waves and white sand beaches, and more and more people are flocking to the island at the northeast end of Mindanao. It only makes sense that there’d be a film about it by now.
Entitled simply Siargao, the latest feature-length presentation from director Paul Soriano’s boutique film studio, Ten17P, is an ode to the surf capital of the Philippines. The film stars Erich Gonzales (who, while shooting the film a few months ago, snapped some Internet-breaking beach selfies), Jasmine Curtis-Smith, Jericho Rosales (and his Honda XR 150 Surf-Scrambler), and real-life surf star Luke Landrigan. Have a look at the first trailer, which just dropped:
The movie appears to have a “find yourself and your true love on an island surfing getaway” type of narrative, which is fine because that's probably what all the bourgeois kids really do when they visit. Let's just hope that by showing the natural beauty of the island, Siargao can encourage people to preserve it, rather than gentrifying it for commercial gain.
Stay posted for a release date for Siargao.
