Meet the Filipino-Canadian Stuntwoman Who's Set to Appear in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

There's another reason for Filipinos to get excited about Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and that's because of the appearance of Filipino-Canadian stunt actress Maya Macatumpag. She joins the Ryan Coogler-directed all-star cast that includes Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke, and Angela Bassett.
“I am so proud to be Pinoy. I purposefully kept my last name as part of my stage name in order to always have my Filipino heritage represented in my work,” she said in an interview with Philippine Canadian News.

Macatumpag, who also appeared in in films like Deadpool 2, The Day After Tomorrow, and Van Helsing, among others, plays the role of a Dora Milaje. The group ensemble of warriors serve as Wakanda's special forces and right there with them is the Filipino-Canadian.
Born in Richmond, British Columbia, she is the daughter of a Baguio-born Filipino immigrant who had moved to Canada during his teenage years. The older Macatumpag would eventually marry stunt actress Deb, who is best known for her work with the X-Men and DC Entertainment franchises. Interestingly, the younger Macatumpag started her career in show business at the age of eight, when she joined the television series Smallville.
"Coming together to celebrate such an impactful project to me and the entire world was an absolute dream. As well as being able to share this moment with my mother will be a moment that stays with me forever," she wrote in an Instagram post.
She also ended up appearing in the Black Panther x Lexus collaboration commercial.
