Will Smith Slapping Chris Rock Is So Notorious, It Just Broke a YouTube Record

You really have to see it to believe it.

There have been memes, GIFs, and a public apology, but it looks like Will Smith smacking Chris Rock’s face has birthed another unbelievable event: a YouTube record. As if going viral wasn’t enough, The Guardian’s video of Smith slapping Rock broke the record of the most number of views within a 24-hour period.

It’s only been less than 48 hours since the sound of that smack reverberated around the world, but it’s already got 70 million views on Youtube—and counting. Viewers can’t seem to get enough of this crazy Oscars moment. You really have to see it to believe it.

The YouTube record was previously held by MrBeast for his recreation of the hit Netflix show Squid Game. But clearly, the Smith x Rock smackdown was way more entertaining than any Netflix show (sorry Netflix).

Since the moment Will walked on stage, everyone with a social media account has been chiming in their two cents on the situation. Condone him or condemn him, we can all mutually agree that Will Smith actually made the Oscars memorable this year. And now, the notorious moment has been immortalized with a 1:23 minute video that probably has the most replay clicks ever.

As Chris Rock said, post-slap, “That was the greatest night in the history of television.”
